Episode 44: Go Forth, Gundam Team Airing Date 2000-05-04 Finally -- she made a mistake. As recently as yesterday, our favorite bad girl Dorothy Catalonia was reigning supreme as Zechs Merquise's newest confidante. The chick had again proven her sense of timing and her ability to slither into the inner circle of the powerful nonpareil. Queen of the sidekicks, Dorothy was the It Girl of the After Colony social scene. But what a difference a day makes, huh? Late in this episode, Dorothy rises beyond mere adviser -- she actually joins the fray. Decked out in a totally boss virtual-battle helmet, Dot's in control of the multitudes of Mobile Dolls as they fight the Gundam boys. Zechs (or Commander Milliardo as he's known by the White Fang) takes the Epyon to fight Heero in outer space. Amazingly -- and this has got to rank up there with the greatest bad decisions in military history -- Zechs leaves Dorothy in command of the Libra while he's gone. At first Quatre, Duo, Wufei and Trowa are thrown by the Mobile Doll's movements. Then Quatre uses his newly-installed Zero System (compliments of Heero) and the tide turns. The Gundams kick the Dolls' tails. Then, just to prove what a bad choice Zechs made in trusting Dorothy, she fires the Libra's laser cannon while they're moving at top speed. Not only do they miss the Peacemillion (which sustains minor damage) but the Libra's laser cannon burns out AND the floating fortress sustains structural damages. Does this chick even have a license? What was Zechs thinking? I'd like an explanation because even though the guy's got some hard-to-handle thoughts on blowing up Earth, he's proven to be a great leader and one heckuva fighter. Now, on the brink of his greatest victory, he turns the reigns over to this freaky chick with the wigged out eyebrows and she blows everything. Whassup, Zechs? The good in "Go Forth, Gundam Team" is plenty. The fact that we get a glimpse of all five Gundams in space is worth the price of admission alone. They don't all fight together because Heero's tanglin' with the Epyon but still, it's so close to the mega-fight we crave for that you can almost taste it. The Mir after Hilton does a renovation. Another positive is the surprising twist of Heero installing the Zero System in Quatre's Gundam. The poor kid's terrified. Once he's in battle, though, and faced with a possible defeat, he types Z-E-R-O into his onboard computer and he literally sees the light. Suddenly Quatre is one step ahead of Dorothy at every turn. It's a cool subplot which might further aide the Gundams in the final episodes. Finally, the best line of the episode has to be Heero asking Zechs if the Epyon confirms what the Wing Zero has just show him -- that Zechs has no future. Zechs doesn't answer as he leaves the fight and races back to the temporarily crippled Libra. It's a great, in-your-face moment. As the title suggests, the Gundams went forth and kicked some White Fang tail. Yee-haw! --Ross Brooks, who's taken down his Dorothy For President poster now that she messed u.
